Signing an ‘alap’

The term ‘alap’ is borrowed from Classical Indian music to represent the exploration of melodic pitch relationships to the fundamental drone. This provides initial experience of response to melodic signing anchored by harmonic context. Participants sing Kodály syllables that match the pitches signed.
